Logan King Takes Next Step, Signs With Colby Community College

Four Year Pueblo West Cyclone starter will take his versatile game to one of junior college baseball’s toughest conferences

For Logan King, years of hard work and perseverance have culminated in an opportunity to continue both his academic and athletic career at the collegiate level. 

Dependable, versatile, and tough are a few words to describe King when he steps onto the diamond. And after establishing himself as just that in Colorado’s top classification, King has signed a letter of intent to continue his baseball journey at Colby Community College in Colby, Kansas. 

Colby Community College is a well-renowned program that competes in the West Division of the highly competitive Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC). Colby offers King an opportunity to continue being a versatile tool that made him a valuable piece for a Cyclone program that has long been recognized as one of Southern Colorado’s most accomplished baseball programs. 

The Trojans of Colby signed King with expectations for him to both pitch and be a position player–a “two-way” player is not common at that high of level. But after compiling an impressive resume for Coach Dan Sanchez at Pueblo West, King is excited for the opportunity when he steps foot onto campus this fall. 

King was inserted into the Cyclone lineup as a freshman in the Spring of 2023–and started every game for the rest of his prep career. That consistency speaks not only to his talent, but also to the trust he earned from the coaching staff early in his career. He played first base during his freshman year campaign before expanding his role to pitching, catching, and third base over the following three years. 

King’s production at the plate and on the mound further highlighted his all-around value.

He finished his high school career with a .386 batting average, hitting at a .485 clip during his senior season, ranking 13th in Colorado’s class 5a classification. King collected an outstanding 92 hits, including 28 doubles, 3 triples, and 5 home runs over the span of four years.

He also made an impact on the mound across 96 innings pitched over his career. He posted a 2.90 earned run average while recording 97 strikeouts–consistently giving Pueblo West quality innings.

His performance earned him All-South Central League First Team honors in 2024. Pueblo West then transitioned to the Colorado Springs Metro League where King earned two First Team selections in 2025 and 2026. 

King credits competing at the 5a level at Pueblo West as one of the biggest factors in preparing him for college baseball. 

“Playing for Pueblo West at the 5a level prepared me the most,” King said. “Seeing some of the best arms (pitchers) in Colorado every week.”

Finding a Home in Colby

When it came time to choose a college program, Colby Community College stood out to Logan  because of the strong communication and genuine investment shown by the coaching staff, particularly Coach Carter and Coach Ohnoutka. 

“Overall it was just a great situation and a great fit for me, “ King said, when asked about his recruiting experience with the Colby staff. 

Combining the strong communication from the coaches with an opportunity to earn playing time, made Colby feel like the right destination. 

Behind King’s success has been a strong support system, especially his family, who helped guide him throughout his baseball journey,

“My family has been crucial in my baseball journey,” King said. 

He credits his father for helping build the foundation of his baseball career and his mother for the countless sacrifices made traveling to games and supporting him throughout the years. He also expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of his brother and sister. 

As King prepares for his next chapter in Kansas, he leaves Pueblo West with a legacy built on consistency, versatility, and a mindset that helped him get through struggles, which are very common in the game of baseball. 

“I take pride in being able to accept failure in a game where failure is so common,” King said.

Now, the four-year Cyclone standout will take those same qualities to Colby Community College, where he will look to make his mark at the next level. 

King will attend Colby starting this upcoming fall, where he will not only continue his baseball career, but will begin pursuing his degree in Aerospace Engineering.
